THE RETURN OF A BIRMINGHAM ICON

Later this year a legendary Birmingham hotel will once again open its doors to guests.

Following a multi-million pound investment, the newly-restored Grand Hotel Birmingham will boast an exhilarating mix of original Art Deco and Victorian luxury, reimagined with 21st-century interior design, fixtures and furnishings. Every precious inch of the grand interior is being painstakingly restored and refurbished to offer a new standard of opulence and comfort to rival the finest hotels in the land.

OUR STORY

Grand history

Built in the 1870s by Birmingham landowner Isaac Horton and architect Thomas Plevins, the original hotel was a gas-lit masterpiece of Victorian style and engineering. It gained a reputation as being one of the most spectacular hotels in the country, with the famous Grosvenor Room at its heart.

Grand guests

The hotel’s heyday saw it host wondrous concerts, parties and dinner-dances, attracting  world-famous superstars to Birmingham. King George VI, Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin and James Cagney are just a few notable celebrities to have enjoyed the hotel, as did the legendary Malcolm X, during his last UK visit.

Grand design

Following a £45million restoration, the Grand Hotel Birmingham is set to open its doors again in 2020. The iconic interior has been revived and enhanced, with dramatic additions such as the Garden Terrace helping to re-establish its reputation as one of the city’s most treasured and revered architectural gems.
